5th FORM LANGUAGE WEEK in MALTA from April 23rd to April 30th, 2008
This year our class spent a week in Sliema (Malta) with our teachers Jilka and Spann. Our journey started at the Wienerwaldparkplatz at 5.45 am. It took us about eight hours to arrive at our host families’ places in Malta. The first afternoon we explored Sliema and in the evening we walked to the nearby town called St Julian’s. Most of us were really lucky with the host families and the next morning came quickly. After breakfast at the host families we went to the language school. Classes lasted from 9 am to 12.30 am. In our lunch break we had time to eat our packed lunch and time to do what we wanted. In the afternoon we visited Rabat and Mdina. We learnt something about Maltese history and architecture, but all in all it was a fun afternoon. After dinner with the host families we went to a nearby beach where we could go swimming.
The next day after school we went to the south of Malta by coach. There we visited the ancient temples and the grottos. In the evening we went to an amusement centre near the beach.
On Saturday we made a trip to Valletta, the capital of Malta. We had a look at the main sights of the city and then we had time to stroll around and do some shopping. In the afternoon we went to St Julian’s Bay and went swimming. The water was a bit cold, but it we enjoyed ourselves. In the evening most of us chilled at the harbour, the others went to a pub with our teachers to watch a football match on TV.
The daytrip to Gozo and Comino on Sunday was also quite nice. We visited Gozo’s capital city Victoria and then we went to Comino by speed boat, which was absolutely cool. We spent the afternoon at the Blue Lagoon and some of us went swimming, although there were many jellyfish. It was very hot and we felt as if we were on holiday.
On Monday after language school we went on a harbour cruise and heard a lot about the architecture of Malta. The evening activity was bowling, which we all liked a lot.
Tuesday was our last day at the language school. In the afternoon we had a really good time on a very beautiful sandy beach (“Golden Bay”). On our last evening we had dinner in groups and then we went home to do our packing. All in all it was a great week. The weather was fantastic and made us look forward to summer.
